Career Advantages
There are very few professions that hold the same level of responsibility as an airline pilot. Despite what some sections of the media might have you believe, the job is considerably more involved than sitting back and watching the aircraft fly itself! It requires knowledge and skill to be responsible for hundreds of lives and hundreds of millions of euros worth of equipment. The level of satisfaction gained from meeting that responsibility safely is almost beyond expression.
There is huge variety. Over the course of a career you would expect to operate to hundreds of destinations in dozens of countries. Even if you work for a small company with just a few destinations, the weather and the view are never the same twice.
Your skills are portable, and likely to be in increasing demand. Whilst no one can predict the future with 100% accuracy, there are demographic trends relating to the growth in air travel and the availability of a global "pilot pool".
Financial remuneration is good. Whilst it can not be denied that there are professions that are better paid at the very top end, pilots remain well up the list in general, with well above average earnings.
