“the RJ is a real pilot’s aircraft and handles beautifully”

Simulator Training

Simulation provides an invaluable training tool, with two main categories of simulator are used in the course.

The Port Albert facility includes a “fixed base” simulator. This has a visual system, but no motion. It is configured to simulate the PA-34 Seneca twin engine aircraft and is operated by the experienced local campus instructional staff.

Your multi crew cooperation training will be conducted on a full motion simulator at Dublin. The type currently used is the Avro RJ, although Boeing or Airbus simulators may also be used.

The RJ is the updated version of the classic British Aerospace 146, and comes with full Electronic Flight Instruments (EFIS). It is a real pilot’s aircraft and handles beautifully. Yet it also comes with 4 engines and multiple system redundancy, full automation supporting automatic landings, and an impressive steep approach / short field landing capability. In other words it is a superb introduction to airline jet operations, and the experience is further enhanced by the use of operational airline pilots as the instructional staff; many of whom routinely operate BAe 146, Airbus, Boeing and Executive aircraft types.
